Hello from the home of the Wolverines!

Well, we are now on the downhill side of our school year, with only six and a half weeks left of the year!  We have had a very busy winter and early spring, and we are gearing up for a jam-packed finish.  The third quarter ended on March 21st, right before our much needed spring break.  The students and staff returned last week rested and rejuvenated, and ready to finish the school year off on a positive note.

Our high school track teams have already competed in a couple of meets, and our junior high team had their first meet today.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate so they can get a full slate of meets in before the District track meet on May 13th up in Bozeman.  The District meet will be followed by the Divisional Meet the following weekend, and the State meet the weekend after that.  Due to our unpredictable spring weather, the track meet schedule is always subject to change.  Please check out our announcements on our website for schedule changes.

All of our band and choir students have been very busy as well, practicing before and after school to prepare for their upcoming performances.  We had our pre-festival concert last night, which helps them prepare for their District music festival next week.  Then for those who qualify, the State music festival will be the first weekend in May.

This time of year is also state testing time.  We are in the middle of our 3rd through 8th grade students taking the Smarter Balanced Assessments for language arts and mathematics.  These are all computerized tests, so we have one class taking them every week.  Our juniors will take the ACT next week for their state mandated test.

Here are some of the other events we have coming up before the end of school: Talent show on May 2nd, Exploratorium and 4th-6th grade spring concert on May 10th, the 7-12 awards assembly on May 11th, an Arts Show on May 12th, 7-12 spring concert on May 17th, and our HS graduation will take place on Sunday, May 28th at 2:00 PM.  All of these are listed on our school calendar on our website.  Also, we plan on holding some more walkthroughs of the almost finished addition, so look for the announcement on our website.

As always, I would like to thank everyone in the community for all of your support this year and previous years.  We couldn’t do what we do without you!  Please check out our school website for up to date information on school happenings: www.westyellowtone.k12.mt.us.  Always feel free to send me an email if you have any questions relating to the school: kflanagan@westyellowstone.k12.mt.us.

Sincerely,

Kevin Flanagan
